Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration--Monday!

Amelia's Clay and Sculpture students have been working on table-top sculptures made out of found and recycled materials that speak to a social or personal issue that is important to the student. These projects will be on display in the lobby of the gym on the morning of the MLK, Jr. celebration. I have included photos of some of them in this blog. Ask yourself the following: What do you think these works of art are about? How do the students successfully use symbols and materials to address issues of importance? What can you do to bring attention to things you care about that help to make the world a better place?

The Community Gospel Choir will rehearse tonight (Friday) from 5:30-7:00 in the Center. Our final rehearsal will be Sunday, from 5-7pm in the gym.
The Drum Ensemble will also rehearse Sunday evening from 5-7. This rehearsal will start in the Middle School and move to the gym.
One last reminder about our service project collections: children's books for Book Harvest; non-perishable food for PORCH-Hillsborough; and school supplies for Liberia. Bins will be available for collection in the gym.
The celebration on Monday morning will begin in the gym at 10:30am. This celebration in memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. is a CFS community event. Hope to see you there!

MLK Jr. Day celebration updates

It's time to get involved! There are so many options. I hope you can find one that works for you. We are sponsoring 3 service projects. For the 3rd year in a row, we are participating in Book Harvest--collecting new or gently used children's books. Let's fill these bins! We are also sponsoring a food drive in connection with PORCH-Hillsborough. Non-perishable food items are needed. Donations can be made in the purple containers in each unit or in front of the soccer field. We are also collecting school supplies for schools in Liberia. What is needed? Coloring books, markers, pencils, rain ponchos, notebooks, pens, and white chalk. Collection boxes will be available in each unit. You can also bring donations on the morning of our celebration--Monday, January 21st at 10:30am. See you there!
The Gospel Choir will begin rehearsing on Friday, January 11, from 5:30-6:30pm in the Center. All ages are welcome! The Drum Ensemble's first rehearsal is Tuesday, January 15th, from 5:00-7:00pm.
So many ways to get involved in this important celebration. We want to remember Dr. King and all that he stood for. How will you get involved??

Alum Basketball Game and Life After CFS 2013

Sunday afternoon, we enjoyed a great (and close!) basketball game between alums and staff members. Above, you can see most of the alums who came to play: Jordan Shamp, Aubrey Griffith-Zill, Kyle Gouchoe-Hanas, Andrew Meriwether, Jonathan McGovern (also a staff member), Darius Watson, and Lateef Mitchell. Tristan Green arrived after this photo was taken. Below, we had to take a photo of the amazing women who played...along with their coach, Patience. We so appreciate all of the contributions that our alums make to CFS.
Our Life After CFS panel will be held on Thursday at 6:45pm in the US Meeting Hall. We will welcome the following alums who will share what's been happening in their lives since graduating from CFS: Sam Schopler ('09), Christine Wall ('95), Aubrey Griffith-Zill ('05), Will and English Sall ('07 and '08), Andrew Meriwether ('11), and Monique Nijhout ('95). Also on the panel will be Diane Robertson, parent of 3 CFS alums. This panel, held annually, is always informative and entertaining. You will learn much about a CFS education. Bring your questions!

On Friday, alums from the class of 2009 will present a panel for our juniors and seniors. Thank you to all of our alums who keep returning to CFS to share their talents!
