The students in Jon and Jamie's Meaning and Representation class are hosting a 5K run on Saturday, from 10am-1pm, at CFS to raise funds to support the continued education of 40 orphaned children in Kenscoff, Haiti.
Last year, the Alliance for Children Foundation, based in Needham, MA, constructed a new group home for 45 orphaned children previously made homeless by the earthquake of 2010. A neighboring community center containing a media lab and medical clinic is near completion. The long-term goal that our students are interested in supporting is ensuring that each child in this orphanage in Haiti has access to a modern education that employs the latest in technology to have realistic economic prospects to make a viable living and lift them out of poverty.
The cost of supporting one child's tuition, including uniform and books, is $360. Each student running in this event aims to raise the full tuition amount needed to support an individual child. They are taking pledges to support their running in this event. (***Note that the oldest runner in this 5K is none other than myself!***)
Funds raised at the 5K will be directed to the Alliance for Children Foundation. (464 Hillside Ave., Ste. 300, Needham, MA 02494) Our students have also planned fun events for children...and they will be serving yummy Haitian food. You are invited to join us Saturday as a runner, spectator, cheerleader, or just an interested bystander.
