Welcome back to a new school year! We have had a great first week. This beautiful canoeing bear is a new addition to Dave's (math) classroom, compliments of 3 of our recent graduates (Emily, Xixi, and Jessye). Below, you will be able to see some of their other creations. I have also included a shot of Randall (Humanities teacher) who has transformed the music hut into a delightful classroom space. Here, he was staining the deck outside the hut.
The seniors enjoyed a lively and fun-filled 2-day retreat at Haw River State Park in Browns Summit. They had long discussions about how they want to lead the Upper School this year. Their top priority is to be inclusive. They don't want to set themselves apart from the other grades. Instead, they hope to be welcoming as they reach out to younger students. During their time together, they created a wonderful music video, which we showed to the entire US community at the start of our all-US retreat on Wednesday.
Here, you can see Sydney, Lydia, and Isaac doing the final editing for the music video, which was filmed by Mark on his i-phone.
Free time was spent swimming in the pool, playing volleyball, and canoeing.
Here is a shot of our amazing seniors. What a great group!
Quick reminders for parents:
1. School starts at 8:30am and ends at 3:15. Please make sure that your children are on time for school.
2. Bagel Tuesdays and Pizza Wednesdays will start next week. We hope that all of the orders are in. If not, please send your orders straight to Willy on Tuesday morning.
3. Lockers and cubbies have been assigned to all students who requested them.
4. Our big focus for this year is on STEWARDSHIP. Right now, the Upper School looks great! We want to keep it this way. Every advisee group is in charge of a specific area of the campus. The last 10 minutes of each day is clean-up time. We will all work together to keep the Upper School looking oh, so spiffy!
5. Look out for a letter to parents from me about our September 27th trip to Washington, DC. We will leave at 5:30am and return by midnight. More to come about this fun and educational day.
Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year! Let's make this the best year ever!
